Curry & Associates is the structural engineer on the design-build team that won the design competition for the Lewis & Clark Exploratory Center in Charlottesville, Virginia. Along with architect Hays+Ewing Design Studio and contractor Mathers Construction, we developed multiple structural schemes for this signature project. A green roof is supported by a steel and concrete roof structure, and concrete retaining walls enable the building to sit low on the site, allowing easy access to the overlook of the Rivanna river from the distinctive 12 foot cantilevered roof. The roof is designed to support heavy live loads, even at the cantilever.
The project is located in Darden-Towe Park in Charlottesville, Virginia. It is currently under construction.
